PHILOSOPHY

To create music at the piano with my piano students.

MUSICAL BUILDING BLOCKS

Learning to play the piano is a creative process.  During the average lesson, we use strategies to explore the building blocks of music, including reading music, improvising, composing, studying theory and music history, and playing ear training games.  Students are also challenged to play music at a variety of levels of difficulty from easy sight-reading music and short pieces that are fun to play (at the current level of difficulty) to more challenging pieces that are longer or require more time to master.  Younger students and beginners might also learn the occasional “rote” piece.
